Carnivorous plants require a dormancy period, which means that they will look as though they are dying back around the autumn.

Carnivorous plants do not like added nutrition or minerals of any kind and they like their soil to be as bland as possible, so getting the water right is also very important.

Here is our carnivorous plant care guid that works for us.

Set-up

Plant pots: Plastic

Soil: A 50/50 mix of coco fibre (coir) and perlite.

Watering: Rain water or distilled water

Lighting:

How to Water

Stand your plant in water, as long as there is a few mm or a cm or water in the tray is ok.

Your can use a TDS meter (Total Dissolved Solids meter) to measure your water quality, you are looking for 50ppm or less (as close to 0ppm as possible)

Dormancy

Come the autumn you will need to put your plants in a cool dark place so your plant can rest. A garage or a shed work well as long as the plants cant freeze.

If you notice your carnivorous plants are looking like they are about to die, this is just how they look when they are going dormant and your plant it telling you it needs a rest.

Around spring, bring your plant out and give it plenty of light. As long as the frost has gone you can pop them out in the sun or use indoor grow light.

This is a general guide, full species and cultivar guides are detailed in each listing.
