Spider plant | Chlorophytum comosum

Spider plant | Chlorophytum comosum Care:

Light & Location

  • Best Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal, such as near an east-facing window.

  • Tolerances:

Can handle some shade, but growth will slow. Avoid direct, harsh sunlight, which can scorch leaves, causing gray-brown marks.

  • Best Rooms: Living rooms, bedrooms, or kitchens.

Watering & Humidity

  • Watering Frequency: Water when the top 1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) of soil are dry.

  • Method: These plants are drought-tolerant due to their tuberous roots. Overwatering causes yellowing and root rot, so it is safer to underwater than overwater.

  • Water Type: Use filtered or distilled water to avoid brown tips, which are often caused by fluoride, chlorine, or salts in tap water.

  • Humidity: Thrives in average home humidity but appreciates occasional misting.

Soil & Fertiliser

  • Soil: Use a well-draining, high-quality potting mix. Mixing in perlite or bark helps prevent water-logging.

  • Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not fertilise in winter.
